Jon Johannsen
Investigator
Investigator Jon Johannsen joined the Stephenson County Sheriff's Office on June 19th, 2023, as a Deputy after having previously served as a police officer for the City of Loves Park (approximately 2-years), and the City of Freeport (approximately 8-years). Investigator Johannsen completed Basic Law Enforcement Academy through the Police Training Institute at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in December of 2013.
During Investigator Johannsen's law enforcement career, he has served in numerous positions including: Patrol, Field Training Officer, Juvenile Detective, General Case Detective, Gas Mask/Respirator Certification Officer, and Neighborhood Watch Coordinator. Investigator Johannsen holds many State of Illinois Law Enforcement certifications including: Field Training Officer, Lead Homicide Detective, Sexual Assault Investigator, Crisis Intervention Team, Crisis Negotiator (FBI instructed), and Juvenile Officer.
In addition to his law enforcement career, Investigator Johannsen served in the Army Reserves from 2005-2017. During his military service, Investigator Johannsen deployed to Afghanistan from January 2009 to January 2010 and obtained the rank of Staff Sergeant (E-6). Investigator Johannsen served his twelve years in the Army Reserves as an Ammunition Specialist (MOS: 89B), and an Ammunition Stock Control and Accounting Specialist (MOS: 89A).
