Director Nickolas Pontnack joined the Stephenson County Sheriff’s Office on May 15th, 2003, being sworn in as a Correctional Officer and graduating from the Basic Correctional Officer Academy (Class #2123) later that year.
Director Pontnack was promoted to the rank of Corporal in 2005. He was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in 2017 and to the rank of Jail Director in 2021. Director Pontnack has served as a Drug Court Officer, as Vice President and President of the PBPA Union.
Director Pontnack has completed many certifications and classes throughout his career with the Sheriff’s Office: First Line Supervision, Leadership and Communication Excellence, over 10 years as a Taser Instructor, Weapons of Mass Destruction/Jail Evacuation and Implementation Training, Field Training Officer, PPCT Defensive Tactics Instructor, First Line Supervision-Mastering Leadership Skills, Dealing with Difficult People, Supervising and Managing the FTO Unit, Attorney General FOIA, Creating Reasonable and Defensible Employee Discipline, Law Enforcement Records Management Law Analysis, National Association of Drug Court Professionals, Critical Task in Jail/Corrections Operations and Reducing Liability.
